2009 has been a challenging year in the farming, beef and horse industry - with feed shortages and a struggling economy.
We want to thank our many friends and customers who believed in us, our horses and our program during these troubled
times. We have been fortunate to find great homes and owners for many of prospects and our family of horse friends has
grown considerably. We wish you all the best in achieving your goals in 2010 an hope you can appreciate the "self-improvement" programs our horses teach us along the way. Horses have a unique way of identifying our personal strengths and weaknesses - may we enjoy the journey of becoming better people because of the love of a great paint horse!

Watch for these 'PRR' bred, raised or trained horses with their new owners at open, 4-H, breed show and speed event arenas across the county in 2010. Welcome to the PRR family!

Bruce & Laura have been involved in either breeding, raising or training horses for over thirty years. They both have different background equine experience that compliment each other and add to the versatility and all-around abilities of their horses.

Like most horse crazy kids - Laura received her first stubborn
pony from Grandpa when she was three years old.  She began
showing horses competitively in 1973 with a local 4-H club.

Her first show prospect was a Canadian Pinto and the first pony
to receive "Champion" status in Canada. By the time she was
fourteen she was breeding and training her own projects which
were successfully shown in open and breed shows throughout
Alberta and Western Canada in the 70's, 80's & 90's.

Meanwhile, Bruce was also involved with horses as a young boy - spending most of his summers on his Grandpas farm in Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan. His Grandpa saw the "desire" to ride in the young boys eyes & was always keen to bring home those "bargain horses" from the local auction mart. If those boys wanted to ride a horse - they would have to train them first!

Bruce quickly learned by trial & error what worked & what didn't! Since that time - he has always been a "creative problem solver" when it come to a challenging horse or situation.

To the left is Bruce at approximately two years old - his first "Paint" love.

Bruce's experiences developed into hunting & mountain packing on horseback, cattle work, speed events and working with problem horses.

Laura has always enjoyed breeding, starting, training and showing western and English show horses.

We have recently moved from Alberta to our
larger ranch in Edam, Saskatchewan. We are
conveniently located one hour east of the
Lloydminister Alberta/Saskatchewan border
and fifteen minutes North of the Yellowhead
Highway.

We are still only a mile or two from the North
Saskatchewan River  - where we love to
condition and train recreation horses.

We have two homozygous stallions that we stand - ensuring that our prairie pastures are always "painted."Thus we decided to retain the name - PAINTED RIVER RANCH.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to visit our website. Please don't hesitate to call or write should you want more details or information about anything on our site. The coffee is always on - should you be in our neck of the woods and we love visiting & learning from other horse enthusiasts of all breeds & disciplines!!

 Sincerely,
