2012 New Faces - continued from Jan 25 Blog

Posted by Laura in Untagged

Well seems my info. from yesterday wouldn't allow me to add on an edit. So I'll continue it here and hope I don't forget anybody!

Kirsten Zad and 2008 Sorrel Tobi gelding PRR Classic Paintings had an amazing first year together - placing well at their open shows and Pinto shows. Kirsten even got her feet wet at the Sask 50/50 futurity. She will be getting married this summer, and fiance Mark Lemieux has concluded that Jona will just have to be part of the family. Good luck in your future together you 2!

Some more new faces were seen out and about this summer. Angela Speers and PRR Special Someday made their debut at the Drayton Valley Paint show and earned their first APHA points together. Carol Jack and Rebecca Wilson had their B/W filly PRR Sheza Hot Doc spiffed up and placing well in the CCF Weanling futurity.

We are pretty excited about some new faces to hit the show pen in 2012. Christine Ventruss - Waugh and PRR Whiskey Girl, Sue Layh and PRR Shez Skippen Class and Candy Schick and PRR Itza Whiskey Bar. I hope I haven't forgotten anyone, but if I did please let me know!

Justin & I just received confirmation for APHA that we are reserve champion Novice Amatuer All-around for zone 10 in 2011. Waaay more than I had ever expected from him. He just never ceases to amaze & surprise me!

We are continuing training on the 3 YO's and have started groundwork on the up and coming 2 YO's. They are the foals featured on the 2010 page. Shaping up to be a nice pen of prospects.

We are currently working on details of the PRR Clinic for owners of horses scheduled for late April. As well as a trail ride/trail challenge for the Sask Paint Horse Club. Please stay tuned for updates and thanks for joining us!

Goodbye 2011, Hellooooo 2012.

Posted by Laura in Untagged

Wheeew, well 2011 is well behind us and we look forward to 2012. The PRR family of friends had a great 2011 to say the least!

Shelby & Earl won many hi-points in both youth and novice youth 18 & under - waaay to go Shelby and Earl, but a ton of credit goes to Shelby's super horse show mom Cindy!! Cindy has chosen another PRR prospect sired by our sabino stallion PRR Zippos Heathen and is hoping to show him some this upcoming year.

Nicola Young and PRR Famous for Roses had a great starter year together. They earned APHA halter, color and showmanship points and got their feet wet in the HUS classes. Nicky reports "Julie" has had some awesome light bulb moments this fall/winter and we look forward to seeing their bright neon glowing in 2012.

Elana Yule racked up more PAC and C.Pt.H.A. points with PRR Shez Got Class ("Gracie') and earned her C.Pt.H.A. Supreme Championship and multiple National and Reserve National Championship titles. Congrats Elana...you've done an amazing job with that gal and we look forward to seeing you under saddle in 2012. As if Elana didn't have enough things to do - she is working with Gracies full 3 YO sister Khloe and has taken on a yearling project PRR Zip It Someday sired by our Black & white stallion Sam.

Some new faces and horses also hit the show pen in 2011 - Merle Howard and PRR One More Whiskey and her daughter Anya and PRR A Classy Fantasy. Both geldings are full brothers and sired by CT Gallantly and Mea Whiskeys Fantasy

The foals are here...WHATA CRAZY MONTH

Posted by in Untagged

Well the broodmares have not dissappointed this year - seems like they all seem to cycle and foal together (joy of herd dynamics or hormones...not sure which). We have another great foal crop on the ground and only 3 mares left to go. I've tried to get some decent photos and get them posted to the 2011 foal page.  The cows are all just about done calving and we can't wait to get those girls  and their brats out to summer pasture in the next week. CT Gallantly is busy settling his mares on the lake quarter and has been a busy boy already....6 mares to keep him out of trouble. Sam and his band of girls (6 with foals at foot) will be headed out to our new Meadstead pasture and Jerry will be glad to have the home quarter all to himself this summer.

The western pleasure clinic in April was a huge hit. Everyone really enjoyed the clinician (Thanks Stefany Forster of Strathmore) and all she had to share with us. Alotta fun and laughs were had and we're hoping to plan another one perhaps later on in th summer or fall. Thanks to everyone who attended and help make our first clinic a very memorable one!!

We are busy helping neighbors with branding and everyone is scurrying to get cows and calves out to pasture. We have started ground work and lightly riding some of our 2 YO prospects (just round pen and arena work) and have been really pleased with Sams kids...just like Dad to start...athletic, willing, kind and sensible...just the way we like em. Hoping to get some under saddle photos this  summer for the website...so check back often for updates.
With the outbreak of EHV-1, many of our shows and events have been post-poned. Hats off to show committees and the entire horse community for getting organized and on-board to reduce the risks of this dreadfall and fatal desease. Good luck to all of those whom it has affected.....and lets hope we can bide sometime laying low till a vaccine can be developed.
Summer has been chaotic on the prairies  to say the least....with wild fires detroying a portion of Slave Lake and freinds to the east in Manitoba scramble to get livestock and inventory to high ground in preparation for flooding. We look soooo forward to summer and all the events it brings with it ...now we sit in anticipation as to what natural disaster will test us next.  Seems the snow has just melted and the mosquitoes are large enough to carry a small child - here's hoping everyone has plenty of coping skills and a good tolerance threshold.
Lets enjoy the summer as best we can, bar-b-q's, beer, good freinds and great horses!  Don't be shy to sign up and add a post. We'd love to hear from you'all and what's happening in your neck of the woods.....horses or not. Till next post...take care.

PRR WESTERN PLEASURE CLINIC - April 2011

Posted by in Untagged

We have had our first foal of the year show up already and she is a whopper - huge filly, out of one of the Whiskey Gold mares....she's a chunky monkey and we are hoping to possibly get her shown this fall in the weanling futurities- see her on the 2011 foal page. I am trying to convince Bruce to take a stab at a halter class. He does all the halter training with the babies - so why not give him the honors? What can go wrong in a weanling halter class?      We are quickly approaching our first, PRR Invitational Western Pleasure clinic April 1 -3 here at the ranch. We are really excited about it and look forward to having our friends and their horses (about 8 in total) here at the ranch for the weekend. Stefany Leigh - Forester of platinum performance horses will be our guest clinician. Shawna Sinclair will also be doing some equine chiropractor work on our guests horses. Should be an action packed and fun-filled weekend for everyone - hopefully we will have some photos and details to add following the clinic. Bruce has not decided whether he's staying home with a housefull of women or going fishing....it will be a tough choice for him!      Show season seems like it is quickly approaching and we will all be scrambling to get the fat-furry beasts back in show shape!! Our Krymsun/Fluid Fred filly has found a new home with Deserie Armstrong. We are pretty excited about her future there - what a great show home she managed to find!      We have started calving and so far so good. The foals will start showing up mid April and we should hopefully be done with the calves, they will go out in order to make room for the new moms of a diffrent species in the maternity pen. I am hoping to try to get more timely postings of the new foals as they are born....now that I am maintaining our own site.
Passed my Equine Appraisal exam and am now an affliate member of the American Association of Equine Appraisers (AAEA - North America). I am looking forward to my new adventure and have a great group of associates to confer with. I will be offering discounted appraisals while getting my feet wet - so if you are looking to have an appraisal done for sale, purchase or insurance purposes....I'll be sure to get you a good rate. The Association also reviews my first few appraisals...so that is an added bonus...you will also get a review from AAEA senior appriasers....sort of a 2 for one.
Hope everyone is able to enjoy some nice riding weather in the near future! It has been a long and often cold winter....sure would enjoy a good long spell of warm weather (like about another 8 months!)  (P.S. my blog has been set up to be "multi-user friendly" so if you'd like to add a comment or photo....just sign in with your password, and you should be good to go. Let me know if anybody has any problems) It would be great to hear from others and a great way to share photos!)
We'll look forward to seeing you'all either in the showpen or down the trail...in the meantime...keep a tight cinch!

MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Posted by Administrator in Untagged

By the time most of you read this, Christmas will be over and gone - but hope you all had a chance to enjoy the holidays with great family, friends, food and fun. All the best to everyone for 2011 and hope your all blessed with great health, hope and hapiness for 2011.

Our big news is the new interactive website. Designed to be a little more "user" friendly and informative. I want to really thank Amberlee of Five Pine Ranch and vp graphix in Peachland, B.C. Amberlee has been absolutely amazing to work with. Efficient, freindly, professional and supportive. What more could you ask for in a website designer. Amberlee will be helping me with the aid of content management software to maintain and update our site on a regular and timely basis. I get to do all the editing and updates....so it will be a learning curve for me - bear with me as I learn the new software. My blog is set up for multi-users - so please feel free to to add your comments, questions or announcements on our blog page.

All our 2 year olds have found awesome owners in great show homes. We will look real forward to watching them and cheering on these new teams this year in the show pen! We have one remaining sole whom we hope to get to the show pen and the Sask 50/50 this year - PRR Time For Scotch (aka-Justin).

We had a great Canadian Western Agribition show in Regina the end of November. Our 2010 raffle filly, PRR Itza Coosino Bar (a.k.a. "Lisa) generated a ton of raffle ticket revenue for the Sask Paint Horse Club. We were pleased to be able to help out and support the club this way. Lisa handled all the people, excitement and attention with ease. We were able to lead her through the crowds of people like a puppy! We left her stall door open so the smaller folk could see her in her stall. Soon there were line-ups of kids just waiting to go in the stall and pet her soft (freshly bathed) coat. Just the sight off all the kids eyes and smiles lighting up made all our extra homework worth the effort. It was amazing to meet so many kids that had never seen a horse close up, let alone touched their soft coat. It made me realize how lucky we really were and how we often take the little things like that for granted. Lisa was won by the Shelly Fouhse family of White City, Saskatchewan. Logan (their 17 year old son) had helped in the raffle both during the week and had taken Lisa out for walks. It was apparent by Friday that Lisa had taken quite a "shine" to young lad. She would nicker to him as he walked away from her stall. We couldn't be happier about the 2 becoming permanent friends.

Jan. & Feb. will mean the up & coming 2 YO's will head to the barn for handling and basic ground work & the 3 year olds will get more training and conditioning. Hopefully by the time I post my next blog - we'll have the "newbies" posted on the website. Till then, take care, stay warm and happy trails (with many campfire stops this season)!
