2010 continues with many challenges in the farming, ranching and equine industry - with
weather causing droughts and floods across much of prairie provinces. These disasters
largely affect our incomes and the general economy across the country. We continually
endeavor to look for ways to make our horses more marketable and ways to reduce input
costs so we may pass those savings on to new owners in these troubled economic times. It
is a time when we turn the challenge into opportunity to improve. We are grateful
for everyone's horse related accomplishments throughout
the past year - whether it be a youth setting a 4-H goal or a World Championship title -
we are
glad our horses were able to be part of your goals and dreams. We wish you all continued
successes with your horses - no matter how large or small they may be. It is not about how
large or small of a goal we met or how many prizes or awards we earned - but appreciating
the small accomplishments & lessons we learn along the way. May we learn to become
better communicators & listeners because of the "self improvement" lessons
our horses silently teach us. May we appreciate, accept and improve on our weaknesses our
horses find & overlook in us on our journey to become better people - all because of
the love from of a great paint horse!

Watch for these 'PRR' bred, raised or trained horses with their new owners at
open, 4-H, breed show and speed event arenas across the county in 2010. Welcome to the PRR

Laura Martin - PRR Classy Scotch |

Bruce & Laura have been involved in either breeding, raising or
training horses for over thirty years. They both have different background equine
experience that compliment each other and add to the versatility and all-around abilities
of their horses.
Like most horse crazy kids - Laura
received her first stubborn
pony from Grandpa when she was three years old. She began
showing horses competitively in 1973 with a local 4-H club.
Her first show prospect was a Canadian Pinto and the first pony
to receive "Champion" status in Canada. By the time she was
fourteen she was breeding and training her own projects which
were successfully shown in open and breed shows throughout
Alberta and Western Canada in the 70's, 80's & 90's.

Meanwhile, Bruce was also involved with horses as a young boy - spending most of his
summers on his Grandpas farm in Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan. His Grandpa saw the
"desire" to ride in the young boys eyes & was always keen to bring home
those "bargain horses" from the local auction mart. If those boys wanted to ride
a horse - they would have to train them first!
Bruce quickly learned by trial & error what worked & what didn't! Since that time
- he has always been a "creative problem solver" when it come to a challenging
horse or situation.

Bruce at approximately two years old - his first "Paint"
love.
|
Bruce's experiences developed into hunting
& mountain packing on horseback, cattle work, speed events and working with problem
horses.
Laura has always enjoyed
breeding, starting, training and showing western and English show horses.
We have recently moved from Alberta to our
larger ranch in Edam, Saskatchewan. We are
conveniently located one hour east of the
Lloydminister Alberta/Saskatchewan border
and fifteen minutes North of the Yellowhead
Highway.
We are still only a mile or two from the North
Saskatchewan River - where we love to
condition and train recreation horses.
|

|
We have two homozygous stallions that we stand - ensuring
that our prairie pastures are always "painted."Thus we decided to retain the
name - PAINTED RIVER RANCH.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to visit our
website. Please don't hesitate to call or write should you want more details or
information about anything on our site. The coffee is always on - should you be in our
neck of the woods and we love visiting & learning from other horse enthusiasts of all
breeds & disciplines!!
Sincerely,
